Thrice — Words in the Water

Thrice (which means three times) is a band from Southern California. This band uses intricate drumming that is accompanied by simplistic bass and guitar riffs. This record in particular is more mellow than their other works. It is atmospheric. This song is inspired from the narrator trying to live up to the word of the Law, that is presented in the Old Testament. It is very impossible for us to do. The words are “beautiful” and dread” but one will ultimately keep failing if one kept trying to fulfill the book of the Law. At the end of the song, it is when Jesus comes and saves the narrator from continuously failing. Jesus already fulfilled the demands and lifted the curse from his heart.

in another time

Lyrics:
Standing knee deep in cold water, swiftly moving, somehow I knew I’d lost something
Wading waist-deep I saw a book there in the river, waiting for me to find it there.
I tried to read it, neck deep, treading water, but the tide pulled me out to sea.
Then, with water in my eyes, the words began to rise from their place.
They were beautiful and dread; I reached for them and fed on each phrase.
They were honey on my lips, but then a bitter twist in my side.
I knew they’d lay me in my grave, “Is there no one who could save me?” I cried.
Sinking, down deep through cold water and heavy silence, shadows stirring in the gloom.
What things that lay sleeping down deep in the darkness woke then, to find me in my tomb?
Then, with water in my eyes, the words began to rise from their place.
They were beautiful and dread; I reached for them and fed on each phrase.
They were honey on my lips, but then a bitter twist in my side.
I knew they’d lay me in my grave, “Is there no one who could save me?” I cried.
When I lost all hope to look, someone took that heavy book from my hands,
all its weight they set aside, after they had satisfied its demands.
I felt white and black reverse, and the lifting of a curse from my heart.
Then like one receiving sight, I beheld a brilliant light in the dark.

6 months old

(Chorus)
(I just wanna get there)
God you making me better
You making me better
And You chose to do it however whenever whatever
(I just wanna get there)
(repeat 4x)

(Verse 1)
You don’t know what I’ve been through
you don’t know what I’ve been through
When the pain, cuts deep cuts deep
you would think it was jiu-jitsu
And me wanna meat from the a menu
instead of peps with the meat from the temple
Tellin me “to find joy in the midst”
This don’t seem that simple
Cause I do what I don’t want to do
what I do I do I what I want I do
what I do and I don’t do
cause it’s me not you
and it seems I’m not you
And I’m breeding my fruit
These are things that are not you
Seeing leaves that aren’t true [?]
Man..
Can’t fight the fight cause I’m too mad
The light to bright to drive you badge
My vision,
so distracted by tension
Condemnation placin’ faith in the weight of my sickness
life prescription distance, WAIT
my Physician is livin
“It’s finished” was the grace of my prison
the cake for the villas
I’m raised in His image
Some penicillin for the snake and his venom
I’m raised and I’m tempted
I’m race and I’m trippin’
Behavin like I wasn’t raised from the crypt
I gotta face it, I’m sick
Gotta face with me sit
waiting for me to see Jesus
gazing at His face till I get (get get)

(Chorus)
(I just wanna get there)
God you making me better
You making me better
And You chose to do it however whenever whatever
(I just wanna get there)
(repeat 4x)

(Verse 2)
you don’t know what we go through
you don’t know what we go through
See the rings
see the videos
see the means
see the dreams of the queens with a wish for the good life
really want to be a good wife
Really want to come home, wish it would have been a good night
But instead we had a fight, with a price
see a piece a piece of the wolf bite
I came home from that honeymoon
feelin high, feelin right, feelin like
our whole life was in front of us
till something nudge me ‘take a test’
Took the the test
it said, “yes”
I’m sayin, “naw this can’t be right.
Can’t recite. I’m tryin to live.
This can’t be life.
How am I a mother after 8 days of being a wife?”
I’m being invited to bring in a life
and I can’t focus on nothing else but me.
Till I realized, what’s living in me is gift
givin to me
from His wisdom
Livin
Swimming with fins, fishing with fin,
The shark, my hearts anxiety is bait tellin us…
“Wait, baby’s first name is ‘mistake’”
It’s a problem with the saints believe it
We slow dancin with sovereignty
till we gotta be
takin from this life like its robbery
we just pottery
the Joy is, that the clay is shape by Grace
and the Potter promised me that, “everything will work for good”
this ain’t lottery

(Chorus)
(I just wanna get there)
God you making me better
You making me better
And You chose to do it however whenever whatever
(I just wanna get there)
(repeat 4x)

My Epic — Alone

As a band based out of Charlotte, North Carolina, this band of Christians captivates listeners with their powerful and moving lyrics as well as smart and intricate arrangements. This band uses truth, beauty, and goodness as inspiration for their lyrics. Many of their song are not only thought provoking but they are also drenched with tenderness, raw honesty, and apathy. This band is truly remarkable.

kitty fails

Lyrics:
Am I a barren temple
Left for newer ways
Of speaking mysteries my veils cannot contain
Should i prepare
To winter spend again
Of silent centuries’ speech for only certain men
What if I wait to find You’ve gone?
What if Your presence was withdrawn?
And I was mistaken all along
To think I could become Your home

It’d be no surprise to finally know
I am truly alone
Come then but likely sooner I’ll be alone
You moved your temple
Inside our bones and limbs
So hard to trust that You won’t move again

For all eternity
You stood with Your Father in perfect unity
And when You walked the earth
You only went where He led
You only spoke what He said
So for everything You left
And all of the glory You forfeit
No matter how low You were sent

You still couldn’t know what it’s like to be alone
Disgraced but you were never alone
Betrayed but you were never alone
Tortured but still never alone
And nothing is worse than being alone

I have been thinking hard about us trading place
Maybe I can wear Your beauty if You put on my shame
Jesus I’ve been trying so hard to look like You
That I almost missed the worst of what I put You through
You didn’t die for sins
You died covered in them
A prideful lying thief gasping out my final breath
For that one moment
You looked just like me
Your Father left You

And You died completely alone.
For me You were alone
You couldn’t marry so He left You all alone
No better promise than sympathy
You conquered death all alone
Cause You know the deepest of all our needs
Never again, never alone
